2006 Songwriters Project Alumni Win Emmy to Complete EGOT

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, a long-time songwriting, composing, and producing duo, won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics this past Sunday, completing their EGOT collection!

This most recent award was earned with their song “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” from Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. Benj and Justin shared their Emmy win with their co-writers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

They previously won the 2017 Academy Award Oscar for Best Original Song for “City of Stars” from La La Land, as well as the 2017 Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Musical for Dear Evan Hansen. Benj and Justin then won the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for the cast recording of Dear Evan Hansen. With this 2024 Emmy Award, that would have been enough for the pair to achieve their coveted EGOT status, but they actually have an extra Tony Award as well! They also won the 2022 Tony Award for Best Musical for A Strange Loop.

Only 21 people have managed to win all four of these major entertainment awards, so we’re incredibly proud to be associated with these two new members of such an elite group. The last decade has truly been a whirlwind of success for Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. We can’t wait to see what they do next!
